Life. Love. Live. on January 9, 2012 @ 01:58

People always told me that I will always have that special something that will turn my life around. When I was 14 my mother passed away from that (must not be named) disease. When I was 22 my father passed away for the same reason. Between the time that I lost both parents, life was not that easy in anyone of us (my siblings and I). By the time all of my siblings got married, I was the only one back home with my father. His last few years were not easy on him nor on me. Whenever I remember those days, I smile. :) because even though they were hard days, they were good too. True, I got really depressed especially after his passing, but a special friend of mine told me once “After the hard times, the good times begin.” I did not realize what she really meant by that, but then I met a man and he turned it all around. :)

Hell to the NO! on March 21, 2011 @ 16:20

Monday, 14th of March, 2011, 4:23 PM:

I was waiting  patiently for the clock to turn to 4:30 PM for me to sign out from work and go home. My boss was at her office doing God knows what when I remembered that I am getting married in less than 5 weeks and then I will be moving to another city, Jeddah, after the wedding. I crossed the tiny space between my desk and my boss’s office and sat in front of her:

Me: “Boss, could you please call the District Manger and ask her if I’ll ever be transferred to Jeddah?”

Boss: “And if there wasn’t a transfer, you’re going to quit?”

Me: “Yes!”

Boss: “Then give a month notice already!”

Shifaa: “Hmm, that’s an idea, I’ll have a week before my wedding to relax! Ask her anywas, yeah?”

Boss: “Alright.”

Tuesday, 15th of March, 2011, 10:05 AM:

The phone is ringing, I look at it and it’s my boss’ ext., I pick it up

Me: “Yes?”

Boss: “I called the DM office, she said there isn’t any vacancies in Jeddah and she has no idea if by the time you’re back from your honeymoon there will be!”

Me: “Alright, thanks!”

I hanged up knowing that there isn’t anything I can do that will make the DM to change her mind, unless I get down on one knee and beg which is something I really won’t do for such a pain in the butt job.

I went home and called Abe right away, he was on his way home from work with Yahya, my brother, I told him about the whole situation, and what can I do about it. We all agreed that this job has no future for me, and there is no way that I’d drive for one and a half hour from Jeddah to Makkah just to live another day of horror! We agreed, that I’m going to quit. I went to my aunt’s that day, we sat down and talked about it and we agreed that I’m going to quit. My sister was there, and guess what? She told me that there are 3 vacancies in Jeddah, 3 people happened to quit! You’re asking how did she find out? A friend of hers work at my bank in a branch in Jeddah, she took that information from her and believe me, it is reliable. This made me want to quit even more, I actually decided to not even bother about giving a 1 month notice.

Wednesday, 16th of March, 2011. 9:22 AM:

It was a cloudy day, for me it’s a good sign, I was eating some cereal when my co-worker came saying that the DM came for a visit, what crossed my mind? “What a wonderful day!” I will not her ruin my last day at work, I went to my desk and said hello to her. Customers were so cheerful that day, though some were so freaked out by the rain, but it was by far the best day I could spend at work, my computer was down, there wasn’t so much work, and I had a lovely breakfast!! By 3 PM, the DM left the branch done with her visit, I waited for another hour before going in to my boss’ office to hand over my resignation letter!

Boss: “What’s this?”

Me: “My resignation letter.”

Boss: “Put it on my desk!” and left to the archive room.

Me: “Without a month notice” said loudly and left the office.

She came back to her office and read the letter.

Boss: “You’re not coming on Saturday?”

Me: “No!”

Boss: “How come you didn’t give me the letter in the morning, I would have gave it to the DM!! Ahh, now I have to scan this thing!!”

Me: *stares at boss* “Didn’t cross my mind really!!”

Boss: “Were you afraid I’d kick you out or something?”

Me: “Not at all!”

Boss: “Oh nooooo, there are some forms you need to fill and I don’t have them!! You might need to come on Saturday for them!

Me: “Sure, don’t mind tha- … WAIT! Forms? Don’t you have a folder with your forms? Call Hadeel (DM secretary), she has it on her computer, tell her to email it right away!!!”

Boss: “……”

She printed the forms, I filled them out, wrote everything on my mind, from the fact that there isn’t any transfer to Jeddah to the fact that the management put a lot of pressure over their employees! I gave her the forms, hugged my co-workers, hugged her and hit the road to freedom.
